Why Glass Matters for Conservation
Tempered safety glass remains a trusted glazing choice for museum cases because it combines structural strength, chemical stability, and visitor safety. Its toughened surface is four‑to‑five times stronger than annealed glass, resisting accidental impacts from carts or exhibit tools, yet if breakage occurs it crumbles into blunt granules that reduce injury risk to both people and objects. Chemically inert and non‑porous, tempered glass will not off‑gas or interact with sensitive artifacts, and its hard surface stands up to repeated cleaning with conservation‑approved solvents without hazing or scratching.
